We left La Coruna just after 3 o’ clock yesterday afternoon in bright and, when out of the wind, warm sunshine.
The town looked very small as we left the quayside.
We had a light afternoon tea on deck as we left La Coruna behind and headed south along the Portuguese coast.
The evening was a smart (jacket required) affair and, after dinner, we went to hear a very talented violinist, Craig Owen, perform a range of music from classical to modern.
Today was another sea day. The weather conditions are idyllic and we can’t believe it’s 2nd December.
There was an exhibition and demonstration about the ship and its’ function. For the technically minded these are a couple of the engine valves and big end bearing shells! James glasses are there to compare sizes. Other information we gleaned: the cost of fuel for a world cruise is over $9 million and at 17 knots it takes a gallon of fuel to travel 95 feet!
Other demonstrations include the most amazing decorations made of vegetables and fruit………….
……… and piped plate decoration with icing and sauces.
Before lunch we entered a deck shuffle board competition – which Doug and his partner (not James) won (of course!)………
…….. and from which he got his first gold star!
James went for his first juggling class in the afternoon (which was over subscribed by 300% and so they had to share balls!) Doug, meanwhile, went to play whist which he won and so gained his second gold star (big head!)
This afternoon we have spent time in and around the outdoor pool and spa complex just relaxing.
Tonight is another formal occasion so it’s tuxedoes at the ready again.
....And it costs Aurora and her sister ship Oriana, a similar size, over $250,000 for a single Panama Canal passage! Hope you are enjoying yourselves - we are very jealous.
