23/11/1997 – 08/12/2012
Sadly today the day we had been expecting finally happened…we lost our dear and faithful friend Oscar.
He had a good day yesterday and a good nights sleep but when he woke this morning he couldn’t stand up and he quickly went into some sort of seizure.
We were able to rush him to the vet in Bognor Regis, just twenty minutes away, where we spent our last few moments with him.
Christmas 2010 – Oscar in his usual pose…
Oscar has been a part of “our gang” for 15 years and we shall miss him terribly. We must say a big thank you to all of you for the messages of comfort we have already received.
Oh No!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh bless.. Am thinking of you both. nothing much else to say..
Omg, so sorry guys, he was a lovely dog. Thinking of you both at this sad time. x
ReplyDeleteIm so, so sorry to hear this guys. From what I've read about him through your blog, as well a a pet he was a great friend too. I'm sure everyone has already said this but remember the good times you all shared, the funny moments. My thoughts really are with you. For now, I raise a virtual glass to Oscar and when we meet on the cut I'll raise a real one.

Will miss seeing his lovely face in your photos.

Both of us are gutted to hear your news. We only met him the once but have followed his exploits through your blog. You must congratulate yourselves on the fantastic life you gave Oscar. To reach 15 years is a marvelous age for any dog and thankfully he was still alert and happy to the end. We will be thinking of you both and our thoughts will be with at this sad time.

So so sorry to hear this sad news...
ReplyDeleteBy the edge of a woods, at the foot of a hill,
Is a lush, green meadow where time stands still.
Where the friends of man and woman do run,
When their time on earth is over and done.
For here, between this world and the next,
Is a place where each beloved creature finds rest.
On this golden land, they wait and they play,
Till the Rainbow Bridge they cross over one day.
No more do they suffer, in pain or in sadness,
For here they are whole, their lives filled with gladness.
Their limbs are restored, their health renewed,
Their bodies have healed, with strength imbued.
They romp through the grass, without even a care,
Until one day they start, and sniff at the air.
All ears prick forward, eyes dart front and back,
Then all of a sudden, one breaks from the pack.
For just at that instant, their eyes have met;
Together again, both person and pet.
So they run to each other, these friends from long past,
The time of their parting is over at last.
The sadness they felt while they were apart,
Has turned into joy once more in each heart.
They embrace with a love that will last forever,
And then, side-by-side, they cross over… together.
Thinking of you both x
Remember me when I am gone away,
ReplyDeleteGone far away into the silent land.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve.
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.
Abridged from
REMEMBER ME

On no – it's not a good week for elderly dogs, is it? So very sorry to hear your news; he was a lovely dog, and even when we knew him at the end of his life still had bags of personality, fitted right in on Chance.
ReplyDeleteYou couldn't have done more for him, you really couldn't. Take care of yourselves, guys.
Best
Bruce

ReplyDeleteOscar’s not gone anywhere – he’s just lurking at the end of the tunnel waiting for you to sail into view.
