We are now safely aboard P & O’s “Ventura” berthed in Bridgetown, Barbados with our friends, and neighbours, from Selsey Michele and Nigel. They are now our neighbours on board (quite literally) as they are in the next cabin!
We travelled up in the fog starting at 5 o’ clock Friday morning to Gatwick, spending a very comfortable couple of hours in No 1 lounge, before the very comfortable flight to Barbados ………
……… in one of Thomson’s shiny new ‘Dreamliner’ 787’s. Here we are, just landed and about to be ushered straight to the ship (without the hassle of a customs procedure!) ………
…… by one of Barbados’ finest public buses – especially chartered by P & O for the purpose!
We passed by some of Bridgetown’s oldest architecture ………
……….. before boarding, what will be our home for the next 3 weeks.
This is “our” deck (the Terrace deck and pool) which is quite literally a few paces from our cabins, which are the last two, at the back (sorry – stern!) on deck 14.
This morning, apart from waking to a day destined to be a wonderful but sweltering 30 deg. plus, we awoke to find the very elegant Royal Clipper (which was Nigel and Michele’s first cruise ship) berthed beside us.
Boy the “Ventura” is a big ship! – only 19 decks high!
Take a bow lads!
Some of Bridgetown’s finest architecture………
……… and some that isn’t - but nevertheless just as enjoyable.
It’s Saturday and Bridgetown is buzzing with stalls selling fruit and vegetables for the local population and tat for the tourists. With six cruise ships in port for during the last two days we took a long walk until we were the only foreign faces to be seen – best way!
Back at the cruise terminal, we copied Nigel and Michel’s idea, and bought a super bouquet from a very talented flower lady ………..
…….. which now brightens up our cabin no end, all for £6!!!!!.
After a major change of passengers here in Barbados, we set sail this evening on “Ventura” for a Caribbean, trans Atlantic and Meditteranean cruise. Bring it on!
