VHF Radio Course

Last week Doug went to the Emsworth School of Navigation to take his RYA VHF Short Range Radio Operators Course (DSC)

It was a whole days’ course, very interesting and informative.  We hope to be on the Thames in London later this year and, after that,  on the tidal River Trent so a good knowledge of how to operate the radio is a must.

There was plenty of hands on operation of a marine VHF radio (pictured).  A lot of the knowledge will probably never get used as we have a little handheld radio rather than the ‘Bees’ Knees’ like the one above.  Doug had a very enjoyable day in which he passed the written exam at the end of the course and is now the proud owner of a VHF licence.

In order to end with a nice picture – today (Wednesday) we walked Oscar down to the ‘Bill’ and, as there was a very low tide, we had acres of lovely sand to play on.
